The numbers
23,309 locations are on the list: 14,797 McDonald's and 8,512 Burger Kings. 20,362 are open today, 13,805 McDonald's and 6,557 Burger Kings.
66 of them changed in seven days. 4 opened, 31 closed for good, 6 closed temporarily, and 25 reopened.

Closures outnumber openings eight to one. New York lost 6 on its own. The reopenings are the other side of the same churn: 18 of the 25 had been marked permanently closed and are serving again.
A closure lands on the list the week the listing changes, which is often months after the store went dark. A store list for these two brands that was correct a month ago is wrong on a few hundred rows today.
The four openings
Ora reads the first review behind every new listing and checks the paper trail. Two opened this month: Princeton, Texas held its grand opening on September 5, and the Ozark, Missouri chamber of commerce cuts the ribbon on September 23.
Searcy, Arkansas has no reviews yet and is the store locals were told was going in next to the Taco Bell. Victoria, Texas opened in April, five months before it reached the list.
