Cold Foam on the Menu at New Coffee Shops

Mert Iseri

Ora read the menus at the coffee shops that opened in October to see which ones sell cold foam.

The numbers

485 coffee shops opened in October, in nearly every state. More than one in four is a unit of a drive-thru or national chain. The rest are independents.

The read covered the ten chains that opened the most units and a sample of the independents. Cold foam is on the menu at every chain but one, and at about half of the independents. Where an independent prints a price for the add-on, it runs $1 to $1.50.

What the menu calls it

Most menus say cold foam, plain or in vanilla, caramel, pumpkin, and sweet cream versions. Biggby sells it as Sweet Foam, Dutch Bros as Soft Top, and Dunkin' and a San Francisco matcha bar as a cloud. Joe & The Juice is the chain without any.
